PING Junior Solheim Cup

The PING Junior Solheim Cup is the under-18 amateur event held in the days prior to the Solheim Cup, with a similar format (12 European players against 12 American players), under matchplay modality.

Following in the footsteps of his parents, Karsten and Louise Solheim, who created the Solheim Cup in 1990, John Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO, founded the tournament in 2002. He came up with the idea of organising a prestigious transatlantic competition for juniors, similar to the Solheim Cup, with the idea of providing talented young women golfers with a platform on which they could compete at the highest level against their rivals from across the Atlantic.

Paula Creamer, Azahara Muñoz, Britanny Lincicome, Melissa Reid, Anna Nordqvist, Carlota Ciganda, Lexi Thompson, Jessica Korda, Georgia Hall… are some of the names that have played the PING Junior Solheim Cup. Promising youngsters at the time, who have now become great stars of world golf, and now write the history of the Solheim Cup, becoming an essential focus of attention. Thanks to all of them, this biennial event occupies a well-deserved place among the best junior sports competitions in the world.

Each team has 12 participants

The tournament is played over two days with a total of 24 matches/points at stake:

Day 1: 6 Foursomes in the morning; 6 Fourballs in the afternoon.

Day 2: 12 singles.
