Solheim Cup Trophy Journey reaches its climax

The most important international women’s golf´s trophy tournament begins its journey through the province of Malaga with its sights set on its final destination: Finca Cortesín, where the competition will take place from 22nd to 24th September

The “Journey of the Solheim Cup Trophy” has started the last stage of its route through Spain with its arrival in the province of Malaga.

After visiting numerous golf courses, institutions, events and emblematic places throughout the country, the Solheim Cup Trophy began its Malaga itinerary with a first stop at the Malaga City Hall, where it was welcomed by Mayor Francisco de la Torre and Councillor Jacobo Florido.

Both councillors were accompanied by Ignacio Iturbe, member of Institutional Relations of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation; Miguel Navarro, general secretary and federation´s manager; Alicia Garrido, executive director of Deporte & Business and also the organiser of the Solheim Cup 2023; Javier Manzano, Parador de Málaga Golf´s director; Antonio Cerdán, Real Club de Campo de Málaga´s president; and Francisco Vallejo, Costa del Sol Golf Club´s president. In addition, there was also a large representation of the ambassadors of the Solheim Cup in Malaga, with Maribel Bravo, Parador de Málaga Golf´s ambassador, at the top.

Afterwards, the magnificent Waterford crystal glass visited some of the most emblematic places in the city, such as the historic centre, the Alcazaba, Gibralfaro Castle, the Malagueta bullring and the port. It is worth mentioning the Parador de Málaga Golf, the first one of the Malaga courses, where the trophy will be present before its arrival at Finca Cortesín, the venue for the tournament from 22nd to 24th September this year.

Stopover at FITUR

Although the Solheim Cup trophy is not expected to leave the Costa del Sol in the nine months remaining until the most important women’s golf tournament, it made a short stopover at FITUR, the International Tourism Trade Fair, which took place in Madrid from 18th to 22nd January.

Just one year after the presentation of the “Solheim Cup Trophy Tour” at this same fair, the trophy had once again a prominent role both in the Sala Andalucía, where there was a great presentation of the event, as well as on the stands of the three municipalities involved in its organisation: Casares, Behenavís and Marbella.
