The captain of the European team does not miss even the smallest detail, so much so that she did not hesitate to make a stop in the preparation of her players to thank the great work being carried out by the volunteers of the tournament.
Suzann Pettersen has once again demonstrated that she is attentive to the smallest detail surrounding this Solheim Cup, by attending by surprise the volunteer training meeting held by the organization.
“Hello, how are you? Let’s go!”, the European captain began by saying in Spanish, to continue appreciating the work of all these people in the smooth running of the tournament and thanking them for their effort and dedication.
Finally, Suzann Pettersen encouraged the volunteers to enjoy a unique week and before leaving she did not hesitate to greet most of the volunteers and to take pictures with all those who asked her to do so.
Stacy Lewis, also with the greenkeepers’ team
Suzann Pettersen and Stacy Lewis made a stop in the preparation of each of their teams to take a photo with the group of greenkeepers who are working on the maintenance of the host course, Finca Cortesín.
A group that has doubled its staff through a volunteer program promoted by the club itself, “a common practice in the organization of major events,” explains Ignacio Soto, head greenkeeper at Finca Cortesín.
“We have a year-round maintenance staff of about 25 people, with whom we have been preparing the tournament for some time, but for the week of the Solheim Cup we have some volunteers, all professional greenkeepers, for extra help. For what we call ‘manicuring the course,’ cutting greens, raking bunkers, cleaning, etc.”
“Among these volunteers, about half are Spanish and half are foreigners. And among the latter there is a majority from the United Kingdom, but they have also come from Poland, Finland, France and even Cuba.
“We advertised a while ago that we needed volunteers, received resumes and chose 40. Some of them are almost professional volunteers and have been in some of the best tournaments in the world”.
Stacy Lewis
All of them will be working at Finca Cortesin until the conclusion of the Solheim Cup and it is the club that pays for their stay (accommodation and food), while they are the ones who are responsible for their travel to Malaga from their places of residence.
